Sub $200 IP Camera

I have read enough to know you guys really are not fans of the -$200 cameras. Unfortunately that is about all I have budgeted right now. I just want an IP camera to monitor my driveway.

 

As seen below is my property. The red square is where the camera will be mounted, which is the eve of my garage. It has direct line of site down the driveway (See arrow). My gate is the green rectangle and is less than 50 feet from the garage. If I can see farther than that, great but not necessary.

 

So I am looking for an: outdoor camera, IP, able to monitor via Android, and some sort of night time ability. Even if I have to buy an external illuminator, I am ok with that. Plenty of places (Like on the house) to place an illuminator Not looking at picking out faces, license plates, etc. Just a way for us to see who is on our driveway.

 

 

Any suggestions? I was following the Ubiquity AirCams for a bit but they seem rather immature in the production. I almost purchased the deal on Woot today (Zmodo 4 camera setup w/ 8 Channel DVR) but then I would have to do a lot more work and need a lot more hardware to get it working.

 

Any suggestions? I have no problem buying a used camera, just cannot seem to find a good place for them.

A decent IR illuminator for that area would cost about $500-800 but then you can use an simple $200ish camera like the Dahua.

I did not think a dome camera would work. The eve is slanted just slightly, so the image would be off.

Like this in front of my house? Works fine, most domes are 3-axis, meaning you can point them anywhere you want and tilt the lens to level it

After looking some more, that might be just the ticket. It should be able to adjust enough.

 

Also, does this include an IR lense?

 

Any chance anyone has one used they want to sell?

The 2MP mini dome is very limited in adjustment range and I think you will have a issue with that camera the way you need to mount it for this install.

The Dahua IP bullet camera I think would be better for you. It has very good IR night vision.

I only tested this camera from a test bench.

If we are talking small in-expensive bullets, check out the ACTi TCM-1111, under $300 similar specs to the Dahua but ACTi provides software free and a U.S. office for service and support.

hi. for that distance in your picture i would not go below 2mp and also dont buy with IR internal it will be usless at that distance.

Just ordered an Dahua IPC-HFW2100 . A bit over budget by ~$50 due to shipping, but it will work. Is there additional photos somewhere of the back of the camera? Is the RJ-45 and power port protected from the elements?

The cable exit from the camera is sealed, but the connectors aren't - you'll need to mount it to some sort of weather-protective enclosure, or seal the wires inside a wall cavity.

So it has a non-removable cable that houses data and power then? How long is it?

I've seen this on other brands of cameras, most notably is Brickcom. Don't know whay they do it. I would rather have the rj45 jack in the back of the camera with a weathertight seal, but maybe it's cheaper to do it that way, but then I question how to you seal the connection on the pigtail that comes out? Electrical tape, heat shrink?

 

Have you looked at Ubiquiti cameras, under $100 for a bullet or dome, USA company and comes with software and PoE injector. Not the best camera, but heck, what can one expect for under $100. 1280x800 resolution or 720P at 30FPS. The best part, no pigtail.

I was almost dead set on the AirCam. I lurked on the forums for a couple weeks and it seemed rather green and I lost confidence. I ended up buying an Dahua .

 

Once I get the camera I can get creative with making the connection weather tight.

I have both the Aircam and the Dahua. Ubiquity cam is real junk. The Dahua is very nice.
