12V Cam on 24V

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Accidentally thinking it was a dual voltage camera, I put a 12v camera onto a 24V supply. It didn't work. Now when I plug the existing cameras back into their 24V supply, they don't work either!

Have I damaged the 12V camera?

Why won't my dual voltage cameras now work? Has a fuse blown in the PSU?

Many thanks.

12V DC will not damage camera that requires 24V AC.

Are you using 24V AC or 24V DC on that camera?

If camera is 12V DC and powered with 24V, camera could be toast.

Most cameras have diode for polarity protection.

Nothing for overvoltage protection.

Use a multimeter to check if your power supply still works.
