Hi

I would recommend IP/NVR for a apartment complex you can group the cams on each floor to a switch and then daisy-chain them between the floors allot less cable and hassle than running 1 cable per cam through all the floors

Regards

Analog low resolution should not be a consideration in 2015.

You should be looking at 720p minimum (1080p preferable). IP or hd over coax (CVI/TVI)...start researching.

Analog system is very cheap and rugged.

Also blurry/low resolution/useless. Not any more rugged that IP or CVI/TVI. It all depends on the manufacturer. Cheap junk analog is not rugged. Analog card is even worse. Its 2015, standard non hd analog should NEVER be installed. Both IP and CVI/TVI are very cheap.

You got to look at the application, its a apartment complex, imagine running all that cable for a analog/tvi/cvi system, sure you could use video sharing kits but I haven't seen any for CVI or TVI that actually work properly, the best for this application would be IP, sure it is more expensive but grouping the ip cams together you will be using allot less a cable and allot less labor

Analog system has been there for years. It comes down very very cheap, but rugged. 90% of Las Vegas still using analog. I do not think they are not experienced. Who can be out-smarted?

90 percent of vegas in not using analog. You need to come visit more often. The analog systems they do use are better that the 200 dollar systems you are recommending. They also use high quality zoom lenses with MANY MANY cameras. A homeowner is better off with 4-8 HD 1080p camera instead of installing 20-40 analog cameras. Analog should not be used in 2015 end of story. CVI/TVI if there is existing cable and its to expensive to replace. Anyone suggesting otherwise has an agenda, like sunnykim, who works for a company that sells analog junk. Shame.

I mean IT specialists at Casino do know what's good and bad points. Not many sales man can succcessssfully convince them to IP cameras.

You mean you can count and id cameras by visiting more often at Vegas. It is a Good tip.

The OP is not talking about CCTV system for his home. 4~8 HP IP cameras can cover the 20~40 analog cameras. It is a Good tip. If nobody buys it, no job any longer.

Like I said, they have many many cameras with high end zoom lenses. They have different needs and objectives than home and business owners. The fact that you dont understand that speaks volumes. Furthermore, when was the last time you were in vegas?

Your 90 percent number is completely fabricated.

Seems that people tend to choose wireless security system for apartment complex. But one thing to keep in mind that despite not needing a data transfer cable, wireless cameras still require a power source, ie. some adapters or batteries are needed. What's more, increased risk of signal loss or interference would affect the recording sometimes.

I have never seen a wireless system installed in a commercial building. Its improper and should not be done. There is no reason proper cabling cannot be run.

Exactly what I wanna say. How about installing an AHD system in an apartment complex in your opinion?

AHD/cvi/tvi are all generally transitional technologies...if the cable is already there its a great improvement..but IP is ideal....and has several advantages like POE, SD card recording in the camera, no need to homerun each camera, lots of options, higher resolutions when needed, recording to multiple network locations at once without a direct line back, easily adaptable to many PC based VMS options..

In very large complexes, there is a cost advantage to HD over coax tech because the runs can be much longer without additional switches/extenders..
