Alarm & Access Control Lock out codes

Recommended Posts

Hello how do you guys handle a take overs where the existing security company will not provide the customer with a lock out code (Install/Master) We currently have a customer that isn't under any type of contract but the existing alarm company will only provide the code if they paid them for it, (over $100.00) We have even gone so far as to get the Manufacture involved but no luck with them because there is a dealer lock out code installed

Please help asap..............

What type of system is in place?

If its an alarm system you could either just replace the panel with another, or

get the customer to pay for the code.... Failing that, all the panels I have seen (admit not that many, and the ones I am used to are a few years old) can have all codes reset, but the methods vary, each alarm panel had its own method.

If its not in the engineers manual, and the manufacturer wont tell you, then paying up, or swapping the panel is your best bet, as you would be stuck anyways with no support or info for that existing panel in the future if anything went wrong.

$100 isn't bad for an installer code. If they are not under contract, tell them to call the company and let them know they need service on the panel and they need the code. If they give them bluff, mention that they will be contacting their attorney and see what happens.

Also, depends on the alarm, but sometimes getting into programming at a reboot is different than admin rights, so look in the manual to see if you can find any reference to that.

Or...........pay for the install code, get the customer on a 3 year contract, and offer crazy customer service. I promise they will be your customer forever! That far outweighs the $100 spent on the install code, plus think of the referalls this customer would get you!

Thats illegal in alot of places.

Whats the make and model?

Alot of the time a downloader can unlock it, thats how they do it to allow service.

With Ademco if its just the installer code you dont have thats easy .. its right in the installer manual on how to get into programming without the code ..

If however they locked local program mode through the downloader software then they'll need to contact their old company, or replace the panel.

Our company policy is that if I can't reprogram it, we replace the panel and one keypad at no charge (we do charge for additional keypads to be replaced). Seems to work well for us.

This panel was a GE panel with installer lock programmed and installer code changed. Even with downloaing it you cant get into programming. We even worked with GE to try to do this. Once the installers code is changed you cant reprogram with out it

That sucks .. with Ademco it just takes a power down and power up ... and a combination of keys on the keypad ... if its just the installer code.

But yeah if they do local program lockout and if you dont have the downloader ID then you cant get in and have to switch the panel ..

We ended up putting in a DSC panel, and how have a customer for life. It sucks to see a company try to do this to someone. You have to wonder how many people just pay the $100.00 to get out of it
