What DO I need If I want to have CCTV IP System ?

Please your expert advice.

LEarning from this forum I have listed the following.

1. PC computers with windows operating system as a CCTV server

2. NVR software which could recognised CCTV IP cameras.

3. IT infrastucture with high bandwidth

4. RJ 45 outlet to plug CCTV camera and connect it to the network

5. CCTV IP camera (e.g. Mega pixel CCTV IP camera for a good resolution)

 

Plase correct me if I am wrong and/or add the list, what is still needed.

For starters get rid of anything mentioning cctv. If you want to go IP, leave the DVR's and analog cameras at the door. And you don't need Megapixel more than likely.

 

Example:

IP Camera

Cat 5-6 cabling (rj45)

Surveillance desktop with software located anywhere in the world.

Bandwidth to each depending on # of cameras and resolutions/fps.

 

No coax, no dvr, no analog.

Sorry but I dont tottaly agree with the above answers...

Not necesarily so, there are standalone (box with embedded operating system) dvrs that will recieve IP video!

2. NVR software which could recognised CCTV IP cameras.

Once again I disagree, that is one option, however soem DVR's are considered hybrid (they support both analogue and IP cameras) these canbe windows or standalone.

3. IT infrastucture with high bandwidth

Again not necessarilly so, there are so many other ways, you could stick to analogue and then use web servers at each camera, then you could adjust I-Frames or even stream with two codecs, you could even buy webservers with hard drives or flash memory, this means no need for traffic unless reviewing footage.

4. RJ 45 outlet to plug CCTV camera and connect it to the network

IF IP that sure heps, but you could wire analogue to a 8 or 16 port webserver, or in fact you can run ethernet on RG59 with converters

5. CCTV IP camera (e.g. Mega pixel CCTV IP camera for a good resolution)

Again may not be needed because a webserver can convert any camera to an IP camera.

I have purchased a system that is hybrid which works with standard CCTV cameras as well as with IP cameras. I think it was iPCNDVR120-16 from [edit by mod-store link removed]. Hope this helps.

But where will you get power for IP camera? it needs power source as well

From my experience, I have found Hybrid system to be cheaper then NVRs, as long as Hybrid system supports the IP cameras I am installing... At lease this is what I have found with AVerMedia Hybrid DVRs.
