What are some creative use of Video Analysis features

Recommended Posts

What are some creative ways to use functions like:

  • Face Detection
    Unattended Objects
    Traffic Counting
    Missing Objects

I mean this creative uses will definitely help to better promote PC-Based sys .. since not everyone needs to count cars .. monitor an priceless renaissance master piece ..

Let's share some tips

Couple of uses we've tried:

For missing objects, we had one retail site where a woman said her purse was missing. They went back thru the video using missing object to quickly find when it disappeared. The person who "snatched" it was identified and tracked with the other cameras to his car and the info was relayed to the police.

Object counting has been used in some area bars on band night to keep track of people entering and paying a cover charge. Since entry is restricted to one door, object counting would allow the owner to see his take on the cover charge. It's a little involved though because you have to set up ins and outs in the program.

Are you going to do a Face Recognition system? We are interested in face recognition and LPR now. I think face recognition can aslo be used in attendance. LPR can be used in traffic and toll station etc.

Hi William .. What is LPR??

"Face Recognition" - do you mean that it can distinguish Tom from Tim .. Mary from Maria?

That's cool! How do u find the accuracy of the Object Counting? I mean .. Artificial Intelligence can only identify till a certain degree of accuracy .. btw .. u using GeoVision too??

Have u ever done PTZ tracking with Zoom ?

Thx

Yes, we use Geovision systems almost exclusively. The "people counting has been fairly accurate as far as the customer is concerned. You designate your entry area and then your exit and the software counts and adds/subtracts to let you know. It's very easy to tru out and test.

As for LPR, that's a License Plate Reader. Basically it's a specialized camera with OCR. Only thing it's really good for is reading plates. Setup us a pain.

Have only tried PTZ with auto-zoom at one customer as an experiment. This was a car dealership having a problem with vandalism late at night. To make a long story short, to many things were triggering the auto-zoom feature and we never got it quite right.

Anyone know of a good auto-zoom PTZ????

LPR means License Plate Recognition.

Face Recognition can distinguish Tom from Tim .. Mary from Maria when it's used in police station. I mean when there are tens of thousands of face information in the database, it can do that.

Both Face Recognition and LPR are based on video analysis. They can be realized in software.

"PTZ tracking with Zoom" is not so powerful.

Can you explain why Zoom is not powerfull ?

I said it's not so powerful.

How can it do video analysis accurately as software does?

Maybe I should use "not so popular" here instead of "powerful". It's a little expensive.

Hi!

FR

For some years ago many companies did use alot of time and money on developing Face Recognition systems/software to analyze and capture faces in a DB for later compare with live video feed.

Today we dont hear so much about this, Geovision as mentioned above is one of these companies and they ended up after a few years with a function that is recoginizing faces, but not compare them, just to decide that it is a face or not.

Some companies aclaimed about 90% accurate rate, but that was in fixed enviroments, in real life, outside with different light, shadows, etc they had luck if they got 30%.

But I think that we will soon see a new spring for FR and the reason for that is Megapixel cameras starting to get good quality. But we will not see camera covering 4 corners having this feature that will work to begin with, but for instance maybe retail shops where customers is walking thru a small fixed opening where we can control, light etc. Then you can have a nation wide retailer sharing DB of shoplifters for instance and if he steals in shop23 and he is added to the thief_DB shop104 will get a silent alarm when he walks into the store104.

I think this will be the first level of usage for this kind of analytics.

It is pretty funny to she movies like Enemy of the state and others where they have cameras everywhere and also can zoom into analyze shadows of a coat and other things.

One day, yes, but not now!

LPR

License Plate Recognition

This is easier to do, but have a high level of camera mounting and light conditions. The right light, the right angle, enough pixels per feet/meter etc. Also is there many different kind of license plates models around the world and many countries even have many different types of license plates as well.

don't casinos already have pretty good face recognition systems already ?

so if you're banned from one casion, you're banned from them all because they share a db ?
