Since this has already been mentioned from other users and i also strongly consider their H.264 cards right now, let's get this official please!

I am also wondering why the forum dont have a Hikvision sub since they are the second largest DVR manufacture in the world, maybe the largest, hard to say how much ADI/Honeywell have of OEM! JD
I second JOINDVR's idea of a separate Hikvision Forum! ...

I also would like to see a Hikvision forum.

However, I disagree with your statement about their software being "very good". I have a Hikvision 8016 stand alone DVR and I've never been able to get the software to work. My IT person and I have spent many hours trying to resolve the 'no video problem'. Hikvision-USA tech support is basically non-existent because of the language barrier. In fact, the language issues with their tech support are the worst I've ever experienced and I've been a technician for 25 years.

The 8016 works perfectly with a monitor connected directly to the DVR and the computer talks to the DVR but the Hikvision software just won't access the video on the DVR. When I complained to the company where I purchased the DVR, they said they have the same problems and reiterated my experiences of terrible Hikvision tech support.

I'm sure their technicians know their stuff, but if they can't communicate it to the customer, they're not very helpful.

So, to help the customers resolve their own technical problems, we need a Hikvision forum.

Maybe they need a bilingual interpreter who is in this field! Hmmm .. maybe I fit the bill!

The problem I have found with Hikvision is over confidence in the brand. As mentioned above Hikvision is the 2nd (some say largest) biggest manufacturer of DVRs in the world, therefore I think when all of us buy from Hikvision we assume that we are not alone.

We have spent hours working on problems with certain aspects of the Hikvision products under the assumption of it is a problem with us not doing something right, only to find out that the problem is with the product and Hikvision have known all along. We even had someone from Hikvision here look at one of our very fundemental problems (ie the product did not work) and say there was no problem and it must be us. Turned out 3 weeks later that it was most certainly not us and it was a known problem. However the product is still advertised on their site so others must be hitting the same issues as us.

A more focussed forum would allow us all to share the problems that we think are unique to us and maybe put pressure on Hikvision to resolve these issues or let potential other buyers know what they are in for.

Who is the first largest DVR manufacturer in the world?

According asmag.com "Security 50 ranking", it is ADT security at the moment.

Hikvision has been climbing spots 13->12->10 these last 3 years and is the bigest manufacturer in China. It could have its own forum, and I hope it does sometime...

A Hikvision subforum seems reasonable. We don't use their software or DVR's, but we do use their encoder cards.

For me this forum seems to be trying to promote certain brands since they do not make a Hikvision sub forum since Hikvision now is probably the largest security manufacture in the world.

If they do not make a sub, then I question why? If they are in the CCTV field, they for sure should have noticed them as well as other have documented they are big.

They also just got a new contract from Chinese goverment worth 800 000 000,- USD over 3 years for renew and expand the City CCTV in one of the worlds largest cities (Chongqing).

It shouldnt be to hard

ADT is a very big company with huges sales, but they do buy many of their products from other manufactures, so they are maybe nr. 1 manufacture or nr. 2, with Hikvision then the other player.

If they are so big, then where are they?

I once inquired about a card and I was directed to some "guy" in NY.

Please find me a few large retailers or distributors in North America selling their cards then maybe we can look into it.

On the other hand, Geovision and Avermedia are literally EVERYWHERE, and the sub forums for those cards were primarily created after the fact that there were just so many threads related to those cards that threads for any other dvr card would hardly ever show up.

Hilvision is a large OEM manufacture specially H.264 and DVR cards, DVR cards can then be cards to use in PC and also "cards" inside standalone DVR's, I know many famous brands using them, like really big security names.

Besides that Hikvision is an expanding company now with their Hikvision brand, it is more or less 30 months since they really started to market themself outside China.

They are also one of the fastest growing companies, look at asmag top 50.

http://www.asmag.com/event/Security50_Ranking.aspx

And I dont think I am wrong if I say 3 of the top 4 companies on that list is OEM customers! Which ones?

You can also notice the sales increase is larger then total sales of Geovision!

And they just got a 800Million USD deal from Chinese goverment, so I guess that will also increase the sales the next 3 years pretty good.

Also read: http://www.hikvisionusa.com/ims_research.html

And there are many companies selling Hikvision products under different names, and with 3rd party software.

In USA:

http://www.hikvisionusa.com/

http://www.aventuracctv.com/

http://www.jdlds.com/

http://www.unisight.net/

http://www.airshipdvr.com/

Many OEM buyers wants that who they buy from shall be a secret, so I only list those who it is pretty easy to see from information on their webpage.

http://www.hikvision.com/En/partner.asp

Many of these are listed as IP camera partner only, but many also use DVR cards, an example is NUUO.

HIKVISION is soon 10 times larger then Geovision in sales.

Thanks I appreciate the offer, but I only buy from large distributors at this time.

In fact I dont buy anything myself, the others do the purchasing so they choose who they buy from, I have no control over that.

No disrespect intended JD but that does not matter, they are not out there on retail and distributor sites, and if under different brand names then would need separate forums just for those also.

Either way it doesnt matter how much sales they claim they have, I would not see a reason for a sub forum until such time as there are alot of threads for them or any other brands. Its like saying we should have a sub forum for Dahua which is also not sold under Dahua in North America but instead under other brands, but I would not support that either at this time no matter how many sales they have. If anything looks like it is trending towards a sub forum it might be CNB, and they are sold at Retailers and Distributors under their name. I mean why not have a sub forum for Conexant while we are at it?

But you could always ask Larry, he is the admin and makes those decisions not me.

Id say if we were to do sub forums for Hikvision, then would also need to do it for alot of other brands.
