IR Extenders for Remote Control for DVR Card

anyone got any suggestions? I need something I can extend to at least 3 TVs.

 

What do you think the chances of the DVR Remote working with a Universal Remote? IF not, do you know any besides something like the price range of the Prontos, that can learn in the codes itself? Short of buying multiple remotes, or having to use one upstairs and downstairs for example ... wanna always have another one at each other TV!

 

Also, what type of wire to extend them, just telco 24AWG?

Any other tips?

 

Also, something I can buy from a common store ... or security distributor even if possible..

Universal Remote Control http://www.universalremote.com/ makes some great remotes. They will learn IR in the 15kHz to 100kHz range. The least expensive one retails for about $149. It also has RF capabilities with the optional receiver

 

If you decide to wire sensors instead, Cat5 would be fine. You will also need an IR connecting block. Xantech, Niles, Sonance and Audioplex are good choices.

I used an RF remote from radioshaft that had a JP1 connector on the back for programming in obscure satellite reciever codes into my remote. Then I could control that hardware anywhere in the house (I had it rebroadcast through video senders). The JP1 makes it so you can do a lot with the universal remotes, that you couldn't normally do. I am not sure if radioshaft still sells these remotes, but I got mine fairly cheaply under $75 as I recall.

Yeah, no wireless. the entire house is concrete as is, and the DVR is on the 3rd floor. They can run wire now as they are still building and the walls are open.

If you can run wire then best bet is to go with Channel Plus remote extenders. Here is a link. Most distributors carry this line.

I have three Xantech IR receivers connected by wire to a connecting block that transfers IR signals via an emitter to the DVR. Works great. Just google for ‘Xantech’ for more information.

 

I have a Pronto, but there are cheaper learning remotes. Check out this website:

My favorite is ChannelPlus 3025 TV modulator, accepting 2 video inputs and 5 amplified RF outputs (i.e. up to 5 TVs). Each TV can be have their own IR target for whole-house remote controls.

The reason I like the unit is convenience, besides IR extension, it allows me to modulate both the main mon and call mon outputs of the DVR, for viewing on all TVs.
