Apollo lite 8 dvr network setup questions

i have made a new post with this question as i posted at the bottom of my other post

i wont know his router type or isp untill tuesday

 

im wanting to set an appolo lite 8 dvr to the network so my friend can view his cameras from home (cameras are at his yard with internet conection and computer)

 

is this whats needed

set this section below at his yard

then at his home open needed ports on his router (37777)(80)

and install the apollo dvr network software PSS v4.04

and input the requred info into the dvr software

Default static IP in the DVR is 192.168.1.108

You can leave it as is or change it, I normally set them to .201 and above.

 

The actual range will depend on your router.

Some may be 192.168.0.*** while some may be completely different.

As you see in that PDF you can do ipconfig in Windows to find the range.

 

In the router port forward 37777, and port 80 for the HTTP server if used.

I rarely ever port forward the HTTP server port though as my clients never use it.

You could also change the ports if you like but its not required.

 

And PSS 4.05.3 is the latest version.

 

Couple other tips ..

 

You should change the "admin" password as that account is accessible remotely. The other admin account "888888" is only a local account. You may also want to either remove the user account "666666" or at least change the password. "666666" also has authority for playback (Replay), you can disable that in the account settings if needed. "666666" is accessible remotely as well.

 

If you want to prevent remote access for a user account, just uncheck CONTROL THE DEVICE in the account settings - this denies access to that account over the network.

 

You can ofcourse create additional admin and user accounts and adjust the authority for each one. Lastly the default user account is what logins in on boot up, you can add playback authority (Replay) so no login is needed to playback, or even remove live authority (Monitor) for specific channels to hide the video (user would login as an admin or regular user to see the channel video).

hi cant get it working

i pluged the ethernet cable into the dvr

and pinged an ip address to put into the dvr along with the correct subnet mask and default gate way

and loged into the dvr as admin and changed the password

then pinged the dvr ip address and got 4 replys

 

these are the settings in the dvr software

title = dvr

description =

DDNS enable = not ticked

ip = 192.168.17x.xx

model = the second protocol

user = admin

password = xxxxxxxx

login type = network type tcp

port = 37777

type = dvr

confirm passwordxxxxxxxx

i think i have got mixed up a little with which router to port forward

the camera system is at the work site and i want to view to the cameras at my friends home

i was opening ports on the home router not the work router where the dvr is

 

i have been back to the work site and opened port 37777 tcp

but still cannot acces the cameras from home with the pss software

 

how do i know if he has a dynamic or static ip address

does this matter,i think the ip address is assigned automatic with the router

Unless he is paying for a static or the ISP gives him one it will be dynamic.

But it should not change too often, at least not by the time you get back home.

Down here all business accounts come with static IPs but you have to still ask the ISP for it.

In the DVR Network setup make sure the IP, Subnet, and Gateway are correct.

I havent seen that range before so maybe they customized the router settings? Or its connected through another router or firewall?

 

When you are at the DVR location a good way to check the port from outside is this:

Enter the public IP of the DVR location, and port 37777, then it will try to connect to that from outside.

 

Another option is when he is there, let someone set it up for them remotely, I do that all the time

When you sign up for a new account, it asks for a CC then it charges it $20 (for the basic account).

Oh .. never saw that option when I signed up for a client.

Makes no sense that they want a CC for that then.

Besides the client likely will never go back to that site again ..

make them pay the $20 and call it a day LOL.

how do i check if he has a static ip and not dynamic

and what ip do i put into the dvr if accesing the dvr from outside his LAN, the one i pinged or the external ip address if its static?

 

also i just signed up for a free account with no-ip.com

it says its free for non heavy traffic use

there are some settings in the apollo dvr to enter the no-ip.com settings

 

i could only open port 37777 not 80 today used canyouseeme.org

is this ok for just accesing the cameras through the pss software

and not Http port 80 or can i change port 80 in the dvr to something els then he can logon with Http

 

this setup has given me a headache

Ive never tried no-ip with that but you could try it.

Enter the no-ip name, and user and login

 

Then you want to try that no ip name instead of their ISP assigned IP address.

Hi crow. setting up remote viewing is simple on anything. what people have problems with is static / dynamic/

ddns service

 

 

the key is to forget about all the above the idea is to get it all working first then look at ddns or static once everything is working

 

 

what make is your router and who is your ISP.

hi his router is Fritz Box wlan 7170 amd he is with talktalk

talktalk wont give support for port forwarding and said they dont block any ports

i have port forwarded 37777 and confirmed it with canyouseeme

im there today to have another go at it

i think i have nealy got it sorted

i read that the pss software, to acces the dvr local you have to put the ip that i pinged at the site and changed the last 2 or 3 digits

and then login (got it working on the sites computer)

now when i checked with canyouseeme at the site this morning the port was not open 37777 and i cant open it

i got it open yesterday but checked this morning and its not

 

i also got told that to acces the cameras from home (external)

then i have to put the sites external ip address in the dvr pss software from home and login

this wont work as i cant open port 37777

 

im going to try another router i have a d link and a zyXEKL p-660hw-t1 v2

 

how can i test these routers at home and check if i can open ports with them?

that seams odd. if you ping the dvr ip then change the last few digits then its not the dvr ip.

 

again with routers and remote viewing ... you are best getting everything working first. dont use the PSS just call up the activex first.

 

 

talk talk (carphonewarehouse) or talk talk tiscale) will block port 80. so you need to alter on both your dvr and router port 80 to port 88.

 

 

then just use http://your external ip :88 this is away from the dvr network. just input it into your browser and not the software.

 

 

hold off on changing the router. unless you know the talktalk passwords and settings.

hi mate

what i pinged was the router to find a ip thats not being used on the site LAN to use in the dvr

 

i will change the dvr HTTP to 88 and also try to forward port 88

 

but the part whats confusing me is the portforwarding

 

in the Zyxel router i goto network, then nat,then portforwarding,

service name ,drop down box to used define,

then name it dvr

tick the active box

put in my port i want, 88 (and also do the same again for 37777 after)

then it asks for the server ip address what ip address do i need to enter here

the yards internal ip address or the yards external ip address or the ip address i used on the dvr?

it will be the DVR address. but you will have big problems if you change the router. you will stop there network.

 

the router you have is ok. i just think you are looking to hard at the setup.

 

in your router you only need to go into services and click add

 

call it cctv then add the ports then direct them all to your dvr ip .... and that all you need

i pinged there router and found an unused ip on there lan

192.168.1xx.xx this is what i put into the dvr along with the routers subnet mask and defualt gateway

 

when i was trying to port forward the fritz router i think i was clicking a drop down box and the computers internal ip address 192.168.xxx.xx

was already there and i think i choose that ip address instead of the ip address 192.168.xxx.xx i put into the dvr

i couldnt find anything called services

so i forward the ports in the router to the dvr's ip address that i pinged

 

talktalk told us today that the yards ip address is static so that good (dont have to use no-ip.com)

another option is send someone like me the dynamic IP of his router with admin access enabled in the router and we can get on and forward the ports and setup the DVR. Normally when I do that though I prefer to have the default network settings in the DVR.

Finaly got it working

port 80 was not blocked so i used that with 37777
