Hello all, yes i am new to the cctv world. It is for a good and bad reason tho. I recently came home an hour early from work and found my babysitter sleeping in my bed, with the monitor completely down, with my son screaming and crying in his room, still in the same diaper from the night before, and didn't even look like he was fed.. now keep in mind its about 12 noon! WTH! needless to say that sitter is no longer with us and it has drawn a huge concern for me and my wife in the well being of our child.

 

anyway with the brief newbie descrption, I recently purchased an 8 channel dvr, put a 1 tb hd in it (a little over kill but the price was right) i prchased a system with 8 indoor out door cameras... not exactly covert.

 

what i am looking for on information on some wide angle day/night cameras that i could hide very well. i have a lot of wood trim / beams in the house so i was thinking of putting it in them. and i have knotty pine walls that i could drill a knot out i think and run wires that way.

 

some help would be appretiated in ideas and cameras to use for this application. I did purchase a 62$ smoke detector camera wich.. worked well but wayyyy to obvious, and cheap looking. 2 rooms are pretty small 8x10 and my living room is only about 16x35. i think wide angle is what i will need, my wife wants audio recording too... i know in the state of pa that it is illegal unless consented upon.

IF I was going to do indoor camera's I'd be just throwing covertly mounted hemisphere camera's in each room needing coverage... I believe quite a few of them could be mounted so that just the lens is showing (look at the grandeye http://www.oncamgrandeye.com/security-systems/360-degree-video-camera/) that or in a budget direction, take one of these apart, mount it in a corner so only the lens is showing http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/Prod_GVIPCAMH264MDR320.asp

 

in theory you could hang some toys or something from the roof around where it's mounted (but out of the vision) so that the lens just looks like a thumb tack

 

my theory is, that as long as you have signs saying "Surveillance in use" on the entry's to the property, and a few obvious camera's outdoors, then your covered for camera's indoors (depends on local laws of course) as you have given "sufficient warning"

They also have hidden cameras that look like clocks, mirrors, and motion detectors used by alarm systems. May want to look into some of those. I know Axis makes a great camera that would fit perfectly into a knot in the wood, but then I realized you have an analog system, thus Axis would not work.

From my perspective telling next babysitter they are being recorded will prevent most problems. You may run into problems putting them into bedrooms and bathrooms though obviously
