Not sure if I'm too impressed initially. Perhaps its just Youtube's compression engine but the clarity doesn't seem there. Probably have a better idea once a review is completed and some more footage uploaded. There doesn't appear to be a link to the original video file?

There's quite a bit of color fringing (chromatic aberration) on the window frames. This is another 4k challenge - good 2MP lenses are hard enough to come by at a reasonable price, and 4K/8MP lenses are going to be harder.

 

It would be interesting to see the raw Hik footage at 1080p and 2160P to compare screenshots and compression without the added Youtube processing.

I assume they will sell at MSRP for a couple months. How are existing cameras priced in relation to MSRP from authorized dealers? I know a direct shipment from China is a fraction of the MSRP, but that comes with firmware language issues I'd rather not deal with.

You could buy 10 x 2cd2032-I's for that price lol. I may just stick with the 2cd's to be honest, cracking little cameras. Cheers to the chap who's been supplying info and sample footage so far though. I'll still keep my eye on the topic just out of curiosity

Higher ress means - one camera, one licence, one channel in NVR, one screen to watch

Of course you cannot use it everywhere, but still there are places, like parking lots, where ability to use only one camera comes handy.

 

Also, have you seen prices for a Arecont 10 Mpixel bullets? It's like 2x more expensive and those are crap. Lowlight performance is bad, and SNR is MAX 40dB! 40dB!!!

BTW. anyone knows how much SONY or AXIS 4K costs?

You raise a good point about using one camera license. That being said, the Hikvision 4200 software is free. Although it has limitations, it does support the Smart features like intrusion detection and line crossing making its way into 2 series cameras. Avigilon only supports the basic motion detection on these units. Do you know if Milestone or any of the other serious packages support the Hikvision Smart features?

 

For my residence, I would like to record all motion, but only get an email alert when a person/vehicle enters my yard, or they loiter in the street for more than a few minutes. Avigilon can do this with their cameras, but at a significant cost.

I think it makes sense that it would be about 3.5x the price the 3MP's but I'm still not 100% clear on the price of the DS-2CD4585F.

It's certainly a lot clearer and higher res. You can see the power cable in the 4k one, but just have to guess it's there in the 1080p.

Hope you get the time to post some more video! What was the lens zoom set on in the 4K?

The 4k looks pretty durn good. No over-compressed fuzziness, which is surprising; they must have some decent CPU power to handle the 4k stream and maintain that much detail. The main problem is the chromatic aberration, but the detail in the grass and figure are quite good.

 

What's the bit rate for the 4K stream?
