Crappy CCTV system

Recommended Posts

I just feel that my latest CCTV system is very crappy. Within the room that I have installed the samsung camera, I cannot see the face of people walking by very clearly. It is almost as bad as the output of a handphone camera.

My system is using the Geovision GV-600. I really don't understand why is this the case. I have taken some snap shot pictures but realized that I cannot attach pic on this forum. Does anyone have a similar Geovision system that doesn't mind me logging on through the internet to take a look?

Thanks.

Actually, it is not my site, it a GEO reseller where we got our card from.

I still cannot connect though. I have connected to it at least 30 times in the past, so perhaps they got sick of me and blocked my IP. I press Play and it keeps saying Stop after the 'Connect to server...' msg.

Their outside Day/Night LiLin PTZ seems to have the best quality, plus you can play with the PTZ controls.

I think it is a GV800 though, not a 600.

All fixie, had to go to the Remote Playback section and a plugin download started autoamtically. I must have deleted the plugin somewhere along the line.

So Teddybear, how does your video compare to the link that G22 posted?

Not as good. May be about 20% less clear. Don't know what caused the difference.

I'm just wonder does this web from G22 represent the general quality of most CCTV using Geovision? Because I realize that if you blow it up to full screen, it is not razer sharp. May I asking too much?

You need to look at the I-VIEW card, much cheaper and more features that GEO.

CRAP!!!!

No one has more features than Geo!!!

I hate Geo by the way, they are a bunch of buggers to deal with!!

Mate i bet you have not changed your video source, I bet its set to 320x240, so when you blow it up it looks like crud, go to the hammer and screwdriver, find Video Source and change it to 640x480SW and you should see an improvement, do not forget to change it on the recording as well.. fact is resolution and compression affect everything, if you want graet pics then less compressiion is needed, but in CCTV everything is trade off:

Larger Resolution= Larger files = less days kept.

Less Compression = Clearer Images = Larger Files

Cheaper Cameras = Less Resolution = Poorer Quality

Faster Shutter= Lower Light = Darker Picture

Wider Dynamic Range = More Noise = Less Detail

MPEG2= Excellent Detail= Large Files

ETC ETC ETC, fact remains...

1/ PC's will always have more features

2/ Standalones have better quality recordings

3/ PC's will achieve faster frame rates

4/ YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!!!

Looks like cctvsentry is now using the new 7.0 software.

Teddybear, yes this is how it should look.

CCTV_Australia, have you used the new software yet?

I asked sentry about the latest v7 software. They told me it was not available yet. I am still waiting for my S1 chip to arrive.

I believe the 640x480 option in the web playback interface is in v6.1 is it not?

They are at least using the 7.0 version of the webcam client. I don’t know if that is possible without having the new software loaded on the server.

If you click on the quality button you will notice the new dropdown list.

That 640x480 quality option has been there for a while now. I thought it was because they upgraded that S1 chip or whatever and using 6.1 software.

How do you know for certain they are using 7.0 software?

I was under the impression that v7 software offered 720x480 support??

Obviously you still have the old client if that is what you are seeing.

I have the 720x480 & 720x576 De-interlace settings.

Yes, only says 640x480... but I just downloaded this plugin like yesterday.

To be exact, the option is washed out. It says...

Best Quality(640*480 De-interlace)

I will be trying to kill this plugin and try again. I am also going to email them again. I just emailed them on the 14th and they said they did not have v7 yet.

The response I got with that is...

"The USB Dongle is essentially a hardware serial key"

whatever that is.

Well I had this same prob yesterday... I press Play and it keeps saying Stop.

The only way I got the plugin/codec or whatever it called is to go to Remote Playback and it then downloaded. I could then view Live.

Perhaps it interferes with our GEO setup. We are still using 6.0 software, and I can view ours fine remotely.

The dongles are now available from Geo. In order to obtain the dongle, you will need to submit the serial numbers from the boards you wish to upgrade to 7.0 to Geo. They will enter these numbers into their database before you receive the dongles.
